My philosophy about the show
Sunshine After Dark tells the story of disco from its humble origins in the clubs and communities of New York City, through subsequent phases of international fame, commercial exploitation, icarian fall, and underground redemption. The spirit of disco never died and is celebrated on dance floors around the world today. On the show, I explore classic disco, Philly soul, jazz-funk, Euro disco, Canadian disco, Italo disco, post-disco, Hi-NRG, modern edits, and more.
Sunshine After Dark is like a spaceship on a journey to
another time and place. I take the attitude that I am still learning
what disco actually was and is and the show is a vehicle for that learning. Over
the course of the past three years, I have become fascinated with the idea of
playing sets of songs released in the same month or year, like a time capsule,
which unlocks a unique listening experience and proves that the affective
power of the music remains potent, given the right context.
